DESCRIPTION:Enjoy world music from the Vancouver Inter-cultural Orchestra live on the Roedde House porch!  \n\n\n\nJoin us on Thursday August 14 at 7pm for a performance of Uzbek Traditional Music by Vancouver Inter-cultural Orchestra featuring: Ravshan Tukhtamishev\, Khurshida Djuraeva & Jonathan Bernard. \n\n\n\nThe performers will be on the side porch of Roedde House Museum which faces the lawn space of Barclay Heritage Square Park. Donations collected will go towards the continuation of our programming and directly supports the artists we engage. \n\n\n\nMORE ABOUT THE FEATURED ENSEMBLE\n\n\n\nRavshan Tukhtamishev is a dynamic and innovative artist whose work spans a wide spectrum of musical genres—from traditional Uzbek music to contemporary academic compositions. A master of the chang\, Ravshan has expanded the technical and expressive boundaries of the instrument\, introducing new playing techniques and sonic textures that have redefined its role in modern performance.His creative vision and musical versatility have been showcased in numerous performances\, particularly through his ongoing collaboration with the acclaimed Omnibus Ensemble\, with whom he has taken part in several international festivals.Through these endeavors\, Tukhtamishev continues to bridge cultural traditions with forward-thinking artistry—creating a space where heritage and innovation coexist in harmony. \n\n\n\nKhurshida Djuraeva is a traditional Uzbek vocalist. She began her artistic journey with the children’s folklore group Tomosha and graduated from the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan\, specializing in traditional vocal performance. She has mastered classical styles such as Shashmaqom and Uzbek folk music.She is a recipient of several prestigious state awards\, including the “Nihol” State Award.Khurshida continues to enrich Uzbek music through her performances and original compositions in both traditional and contemporary national genres. \n\n\n\nJuno nominated percussionist Jonathan Bernard combines his background in western percussion with a fascination for Asian and Andalusian traditions to create a unique sound palette incorporating a myriad of instruments\, techniques and styles. Jonathan’s interests span genres from orchestral music\, to new music\, and intercultural music. Having premiered over 100 chamber works\, Jonathan has performed with\, among others\, the Vancouver\, Ottawa\, Victoria\, CBC Radio Orchestras\, and is principal percussionist with the Vancouver Island Symphony. He is a member of Turning Point Ensemble\, Orchid Ensemble\, Sound of Dragon Ensemble\, Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra\, Sounds Global Ensemble\, Lalun\, and Naadaleela. Jonathan performed as soloist in Tan Dun’s Water Concerto\, and Jin Zhang’s No Rush at Taipei’s National Concert Hall. He has studied traditional and contemporary Chinese percussion in Beijing; Arabic percussion in Cairo; Flamenco Compas in Spain; and Carnatic rhythm in South India\, with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and British Columbia Arts Council. Jonathan has toured throughout North America\, Europe\, Taiwan\, Korea\, China\, and Japan. Experience an evening of live jazz outside of Roedde House Museum. We are pleased to welcome Luke Sandford (piano)! \n\n\n\nAdmission is by donation! \n\n\n\n_________________________ \n\n\n\nArtist Bio \n\n\n\nLuke Sanford  \n\n\n\nPianist/singer Luke Sandford grew up on Vancouver Island\, where he studied classical music with Martha Reuter. He has played professionally in Vancouver\, Montreal\, Barcelona\, Berlin\, London and New York\, where he performed in piano bars for many years. His debut recording\, “Shimmer”\, was released in 2000\, followed by “Echoes” in 2010. His more recent original releases\, “Lukejazz” and “Lukerock”\, were recorded during lockdown in 2020-2021 and feature contributions by leading session musicians from New York\, London\, Barcelona and Tel Aviv. Luke is known for his wide-ranging blend of pop\, rock\, jazz standards and show tunes. His music and videos are now available on YouTube\, Spotify and other streaming services. The performers will be on the side porch of Roedde House Museum which faces the lawn space of Barclay Heritage Square Park. Donations collected will go towards the continuation of our programming and directly supports the artists we engage. \n\n\n\nMORE ABOUT THE FEATURED ENSEMBLE\n\n\n\nAli Razmi is a gifted Tar & Setar player who obtained his Master’s Degree in music from The Art University of Tehran in 2006. Since his arrival to Canada in 2007 he is a roster member of the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra and has done workshops and concerts with well known musicians from all around the world. He has toured 29 cities in Italy with Orchestra Familia\, appeared at the Jahan e Khusrau music festival in New Delhi with Rumi Ensemble. He has performed with Abida Parveen\, Saaz o Raaz Ensemble (Indian Persian fusion)\, Ali Razmi Persian Jazz ensemble\, Vashhan ensemble (folk)\, Qalandar ensemble (Arabic and Persian jazz)\, and solo playing at The Art Museum of Dallas\, as well as Sufi music with whirling dervishes at The Agha Khan Museum in Toronto. \n\n\n\nDailin Hsieh (Zheng)Dailin is a vibrant Zheng player based in Vancouver. She graduated from Taiwan’s National Tainan University of the Arts and received a Master’s Degree in Ethnomusicology from National Taiwan Normal University. Aside from receiving numerous awards for her artistry\, she has premiered numerous groundbreaking works by Taiwanese and Canadian composers to critical acclaim. Dailin has performed as a soloist with Turning Point Ensemble\, Allegra Chamber Orchestra\,Taipei Municipal Chinese Orchestra and Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra (Taiwan & European/China/Canada tours). Dailin is a member of the JUNO nominated Orchid Ensemble\, Naadaleela Ensemble\, Sound of Dragon Ensemble\, BC Chinese Music Ensemble\, 88 Strings and Sounds Global Ensemble. And she is currently cooperating with Music on Main\, Vancouver Inter-cultural Orchestra and BC Chinese Orchestra. Experience an intimate evening of live jazz outside of Roedde House Museum. We are pleased to welcome Bem Bem Beo with Fran Jaré\, Al Johnston & Nick Apivor. \n\n\n\nThe concert will start at 7 pm\, and wrap up at 8:00pm. \n\n\n\nAdmission is by donation! \n\n\n\n_________________________ \n\n\n\nArtist Bios \n\n\n\nBem Bem Beo – Spicy Salsa\, Latin\, Brazilian\, Afro-Latin Music \n\n\n\nThe ultimate Latin Jazz Exploration has such diversification of repertoire\, from Brazilian\, Afro-Latin to some uniquely arranged Classics like Malagueña\, Choro\, (originated in the 19th century – precursor to Samba and Bossa Nova) paying homage to luminaries such as: Antonio Carlos Jobim\, Chucho Valdez\, Cal Trader\, Latin standards plus the trio’s originals. C’mon down to experience this very vibrant\, musical and rhythmic genre with us. Olé! \n\n\n\nFran Jaré – Enchanting pianist/composer embraces a myriad of influences.
