SUMMARY:Christmas with the Marches: An Immersive Holiday Gathering
DESCRIPTION:$55-250 \n\n\n\nStep into a transformed Roedde House for a holiday soirée with the March sisters—Meg\, Jo\, Beth\, and Amy—and their inimitable mother\, Marmee. Inspired by Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women\, this intimate\, immersive gathering welcomes guests to participate in a celebration of Christmases past through one extraordinary family’s coming-of-age. \n\n\n\nSet in 1865 Massachusetts\, Christmas with the Marches is a story of growing up\, giving generously\, and discovering who you’re meant to be beyond the roles you’ve been given. Through laughter\, loss\, and the glow of candlelight\, the March women invite us to explore many definitions of womanhood and to find the strength and beauty in them all. \n\n\n\nEqual parts immersive theatre and holiday party\, this experience brings Little Women to life with music\, mischief\, and meaning. Raise a toast\, sing along\, and make yourself at home—after all\, it wouldn’t be Christmas without you. \n\n\n\nCreated and Produced by Hidden Stages: \n\n\n\nAt Hidden Stages\, we craft worlds\, not just spaces. We specialize in immersive\, experiential design that transforms environments into unforgettable journeys. Blending artistry\, storytelling\, and cutting-edge technology\, we create experiences that engage the senses\, spark curiosity\, and leave lasting impressions. \n\n\n\nFrom interactive installations and branded environments to large-scale events and theatrical experiences\, our team of designers\, artists\, and visionaries collaborate to bring bold ideas to life. Every project is designed to blur the line between audience and environment—inviting people not just to witness\, but to participate\, explore\, and connect on a deeper level. \n\n\n\nWith a passion for innovation and a dedication to detail\, Hidden Stages turns imagination into reality—shaping experiences that move people\, inspire wonder\, and create lasting impact. \n\n\n\n______ \n\n\n\nTicket holders should arrive no later than 10 minutes before showtime to secure seats. \n\n\n\nParking: \n\n\n\nLimited street parking is available on Robson and in the West End. SUMMARY:Kodo: Japanese Incense Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS\n\n\n\n\nDōjin Arts and Roedde House Museum are pleased to invite you to engage your senses while learning about kōdō\, the Japanese Way of Incense.Join us for an intimate gathering in the beautiful Roedde House parlour where guests will be led to participate in a kumikō – a form of incense appreciation exercise developed around the Muromachi period (1338–1573). This session will be held in the ryūrei 立礼 style — seated at a long table rather than on tatami mats. This accessible format is a perfect introduction for those brand new to kōdō as well as a different style of experience for seasoned kumikō guests. \n\n\n\nAbout the Educator:Maiko Myōkō Behr has worked as a Japanese-to-English translator\, curator\, and consultant specializing in Japanese arts for over 20 years. SUMMARY:Scary Ghost Stories: A Victorian Tradition
DESCRIPTION:Continued from Dec 4-8 \n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us in the historical Roedde House parlour for the once-popular Victorian tradition of telling ghost stories at Christmas! This is our fourth year hosting this performance presented by Famous Artists Limited – all new stories this year\, so don’t miss out! \n\n\n\nDETAILS: \n\n\n\nTelling ghost stories at Christmas began in England in the 1700s. Roedde House has revived this tradition in recent years at the hands of Mr. and Mrs. Winchester\, aided last year by their faithful butler Mr. Tomes as portrayed by Vancouver favourite\, Bernard Cuffling. \n\n\n\nThis year\, 1911\, the Winchesters\, and Tomes\, are off travelling Europe and destined to return next April aboard a brand-new luxury ocean liner! \n\n\n\nAdele\, the maid\, forgot to send out notices cancelling the annual party and so\, the Winchesters’ guests (you) have shown up! Cornered\, but unafraid\, the ghostly tales will be delivered by the “help” of Roedde House\, Adele the maid and Tom the stable boy (it’s 1911\, there are still stables). \n\n\n\nLeft to their own devices\, these two will pillage the Winchesters’ liquor cabinet and high end bon-bon boxes (and share the bon-bons) and then entertain the guests with the most chilling of the Winchester’s collection of Victorian ghost stories and a few Christmas carols. \n\n\n\nDaniel Merlo\, from Cap University\, recently starred in “The Woman in Black” at the Metro Theatre. His sense for the macabre is top drawer and his partner in this crime will be actor and theatrical stalwart\, Angeles Paz-Latapi as Adele the maid. Tea and treats will be served at the interval and visitors can expect the same candle-lit aura of spookiness that always accompanies a Christmas ghost story-telling at Roedde House. \n\n\n\n“It’s crucial these stories be read aloud before the listener takes their bleak\, shadow-filled walk from the parlour space to their cart\, or home. To capture the Victorian ghost story experience is to whisper it by candlelight\, to feel the tendrils of the winter’s chill reaching from the darkness outside the hearth’s glow.” – George Winchester  \n\n\n\nSo welcome to Roedde House for a Christmas experience like no other! \n\n\n\nTea and sweets will be then be served during a short intermission before audience members are invited back into the parlour for one last tale before the Winchesters send everyone off into the shadow-filled night. \n\n\n\nFURTHER DETAILS: \n\n\n\n\nPlease ring the turn-key doorbell on the front door for entry.\n\n\n\nGive yourself plenty of time to find parking. There is paid parking at Broughton. SUMMARY:Japanese Tea Ceremony with SaBi Tea Arts
DESCRIPTION:TWO SESSIONS: 1PM & 3PM \n\n\n\nJoin us as we celebrate Asian Heritage Month with an intimate Japanese tea ceremony in the Roedde House parlour\, presented by Maiko Behr of SaBi Tea Arts. This program is made possible through funding by The Dōjin Japanese Arts Society. \n\n\n\nWe will be holding two sessions on Saturday May 25th: one starting 1:00 pm and one starting at 3:00 pm. There will be a maximum of 10 participants in each session. \n\n\n\n\nPURCHASE TICKETS\n\n\n\n\nAlthough the practice of preparing tea for guests integrating Zen aesthetics and following carefully prescribed movements and protocols dates back more than 450 years\, the forms are constantly evolving to suit the times. Using a modern-era tea table to prepare and serve the traditional matcha tea\, Maiko will provide an introduction to the Japanese tea ceremony but with particular attention to the period of the encounter between East and West at the turn of the 20th century\, contemporary with Roedde House. Step back in time with us for a glimpse at this interesting historical moment when traditional arts were adapting to the modern world. \n\n\n\nMatcha (stone-milled green tea) and a traditional Japanese sweet will be served. Sweets may contain beans\, sugar\, rice powder\, and agar jelly. If you have dietary concerns\, please contact us in advance. Due to the nature of the program\, substitutions may not be possible. \n\n\n\nAbout Dojin Arts: \n\n\n\nThe Dōjin Japanese Arts Society 同仁文化会 offers a variety of interactive experiences and educational programs aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japanese cultural heritage. To find our more\, please visit: www.dojinarts.org \n\n\n\nMaiko Behr has worked as a Japanese-to-English translator\, curator\, and consultant specializing in Japanese arts for over 20 years. She is the founder and Executive Director of the recently-established Dōjin Japanese Arts Society  and the owner of SaBi Tea Arts\, where she teaches chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony) in the Omotesenke tradition and kōdō (Japanese incense ceremony) in the Senzan Goryū tradition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant Info: \n\n\n\n\nTicket holders should arrive on time.\n\n\n\nCapacity will be limited.\n\n\n\nLimited street parking is available on Robson and in the West End.
