DESCRIPTION:Join us for Jazz on the Porch for the Summer! Experience an evening of live jazz outside of Roedde House Museum featuring Re-Vibe!  \n\n\n\nAdmission is by donation  \n\n\n\nAbout the Artists:  \n\n\n\nNick Apivor: Received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria in 1986\, with a concentration on performance\, education\, and composition. Since that time\, he has performed in countless situations from symphony orchestras to major arena shows with pop groups\, as well as numerous festivals across Canada\, the US\, and South East Asia. In the jazz world\, he has performed and recorded with Juno-nominated Latin jazz group Rumba Calzada\, N.O.W Workshop\, Bill Runge Quintet\, and legendary drummer Claude Ranger\, as well as studying at Cazadero Brazil Camp\, and with such jazz luminaries as Mark Sherman and Hugh Fraser. Nick currently teaches at Trinity Western University  \n\n\n\nCraig Scott: Plays drums\, vibraphone and percussion. His credits include performances with jazz luminaries as Campbell Ryga\, Oliver Gannon\, PJ Perry\, Alan Matheson\, Randy Bachmann\, Natalie McMaster\, Dianna Krall\, and the late Harry “Sweets” Edison\, Rosemary Clooney\, Charlie Byrd\, Herb Ellis\, Phil Woods\, Bud Shank\, and Clark Terry. Craig has extensive experience in television\, film\, radio\, and has played on countless albums including Randy Bachmann’s Jazz Thing. Craig has also recorded many of the drum tracks for PGMusic’s Band-In-A-Box. Craig holds degrees in both music and education and teaches at both Vancouver Community College and Capilano University.  \n\n\n\nNathen Aswell: Is one of the busiest singing bassists in Canada. He has performed with a wide variety of recording artists\, including Randy Bachman\, Susan Crowe\, Shari Ulrich\, Babe Gurr\, Gabriel Mark Hasselbach and Andrea Menard. He has also performed with Jackson Hollow\, LJ Mounteney\, Lowry Olafson\, Aaron Pritchett\, and The Wilds. Nathen is originally from Montreal\, where he was a member of The Puritans as well as The Buzz Band before moving to Vancouver in 1992. Currently\, Nathen performs in several different tribute bands and also performs his own music on the Chapman Stick.

SUMMARY:VICO Concert in the Parlour - A Blending of Celtic & Persian Traditions
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nVancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra returns to the Roedde House this fall for a fusion of Celtic & Persian music in an intimate concert experience in our historical Victorian parlour! \n\n\n\nMusician Amy Stephen plays celtic harp\, accordion and penny whistle\, and Amir Haghighi is a Persian traditional singer. Together\, Amir and Amy create a sound that blends elements of authentic Persian and Celtic folk traditions and reaches hearts across all borders. The duo will be performing a harmonious and spirited fusion of East and West ~ Persian and Celtic traditional songs and tunes unite to uplift and move the heart.  \n\n\n\nTea and Cookies will be served at the end of the concert. \n\n\n\nTicket holders should arrive no later than 10 minutes before showtime to secure seats.Seating is limited. \n\n\n\nArtist Bios: \n\n\n\nAmy is a founder of internationally acclaimed celtic ensemble Mad Pudding\, and she also performs solo and with other ensembles including Winter Harp\, the Vancouver Chamber Choir\, and the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra. Amir learned traditional Persian singing in his native Iran\, and since moving to Canada\, has performed with many Persian and cultural fusion ensembles\, as well as at festivals and concert series in Canada and the US.  Amy and Amir have been members of the Vancouver World Music Collective\, and both were featured as composers in the award-winning Canadian documentary\, “Music for a New World”. Their recordings can be found at www.amystephenmusic.com \n\n\n\nAbout VICO: \n\n\n\nSince repertoire for the VICO’s unusual and diverse instrumentation does not already exist\, creating new work is an integral component of all our programming. Developing new commissions (over 50 new Canadian works since 2001\, and counting!) provides a necessary framework for bringing musicians and composers together to learn from each other\, in a uniquely collaborative process.
