Jazz in the Parlour: Ben MacRae Trio

Jazz in the Parlour starts up again on February 26th, at 7pm!

Experience an evening of live jazz in Roedde House’s Victorian parlour! We are pleased to welcome the Ben MacRae Trio featuring Ben MacRae (Tuba, Clarinet, Saxophone, & Voice), Strauss Whiteside (Piano), and Kayden Gorden (Trumpet).

About the Artists:

Ben MacRae is an accomplished clarinet, saxophone, flute, and tuba player who is currently settled in Vancouver, BC. Originally from the Fraser Valley, Ben enjoys cooking, bicycling, and playing cribbage. Ben received a diploma in Orchestral Performance on the clarinet from KPU in 2017, and in 2021, at Capilano University, Ben obtained a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies, Performance and Composition.

Kayden Gorden is a trumpet player, vocalist, and composer originally from Chilliwack, BC, now residing in Vancouver. He started playing trumpet at the age of 12 and began performing professionally at 15. In 2017, he was a recipient of a Fraser MacPherson Jazz Fund Award. Kayden’s repertoire predominantly includes traditional New Orleans jazz, swing, and pre-bop standards.

Strauss Whiteside is a prolific piano teacher and jazz pianist from the South Surrey area of BC. Strauss started his music study at the age of 10 and has devoted his life to the art, playing in many bands and combos throughout high school and university. In 2021, Strauss completed his second degree, a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Music from UBC and has since been hired by the Surrey School District as a band TTOC and has been helping to guide students in their musical journeys and encouraging the next generation.

The concert will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 30-minute intermission during which tea and cookies will be available.
