Our October 2025 collections room exhibit German Expressionist Kathe Kollwitz. Active during World War I, Kollwitz’s art highlighted the effects poverty, hunger, and war had on the working class. Her art gives us a unique voice of the First World War through her art and the experience the German people felt. Kollwitz is paired with our very own Gustav Roedde’s voice, and the experiences of German immigrants in Canada and around the world, allowing us to hear the other side of the narrative.
